Governors

The role of the Governing Body at

Glemsford Primary Academy

The key role of any Governing body is to work with the Headteacher to help the school improve. To achieve this the Governing body needs to understand what is great about the school and what could be improved upon. In addition to listening to external educational professionals, like Ofsted Inspectors or School Performance Advisors, the Governing body needs to understand the views of the school staff, the pupils, the parents, the community and other stakeholders that want the school to be the best it can be. At the heart of good Governance is the consideration of the impact on the children. The principal goal is ensuring a happy, healthy, fun learning environment where every child reaches his or her potential and enjoys the process of learning.

We welcome your comments and opinions and can be contacted by writing to Mrs Claire Martin Chair of the Governing body c/o Glemsford Primary Academy.

I have lived in the village for 43 years. I am married with two children. I have run a small business for 20 years. My son and I spent our primary years at Glemsford School and my daughter is currently thriving there now.  I have witnessed many changes in the village over the years, one of them being the heart-warming transformation of Glemsford Primary Academy.

I live in Glemsford with my wife and son and have lived in the local area for about 10 years. I work as the KS3 Mathematics lead at a local secondary school and therefore have good knowledge of education today especially the teaching of Mathematics. Since joining the governing body in 2014, I have been amazed by the progress the school has made and I'm excited by the fact my son will be joining the school soon.

I have lived in Glemsford for twenty years as the Rector of the village church and both our children attended Glemsford Primary. I am also a foundation governor of Hartest CEVC Primary and a trustee for a number of charities in Glemsford and surrounding villages. I have lived in Glemsford since 1984 and I live with my husband and 2 grown-up daughters. Both attended Glemsford School and still have very found and happy memories of the school.

I have worked at the school since 1999 and have seen many changes within it. I believe the school is the strongest it has ever been and am very excited to be part of all the new up and coming adventures.

My wife and I have lived in the village for the last 5 years and apart from a 5 year spell in Tunbridge Wells we have lived in and around the Sudbury area for the last 45 years. I have been retired for the last 8 years or so. From leaving college I worked for various Architects and Consulting Engineers on the design of building services and more laterly in the Energy Supply  industry. As part of my job I was elected to be the Senior Union Repreesentative for Prospect and it was my responsibility to engage in the duties regarding redundacy, wage negotiations and disiplinary procedures etc.

We have 4 grown up children and 9 grandchildren, the eldest of whom is now a primary school teacher. We spend a lot of time with the family and engage with their various activities in and out of school with the sporting and drama classes which take us back and forth to Kent and London.

I hope to bring the benifits of my experiences to the dedicated Board of Governers to help further the already great reputation of the school
